中本聪是比特币的开发者兼创始者，1949年7月出生，日裔美国人。他爱好收集火车模型，职业生涯中有多处保密，曾为大型企业还有美国军方执行保密的工作。
2008年11月1日，1个自称中本聪的人在1个隐秘的密码学讨论组上贴出了一篇研究报告，报告阐述了他对电子货币的新构想。
2009年1月3日，中本聪开发出1个人人都能发现电子货币的加密金融体系，比特币就此问世。
2010年12月5日，当维基解密泄露美国外交电报事件开始时，比特币社区成员在论坛中提议，用自己的货币帮助维基解密，打破国际权威集团的全球金融封锁，中本聪坚决反对。TA认为比特币都还在摇篮中，无法和权威们抗争，也经不起折腾。12月12日，中本聪在比特币论坛上，预言美联储将很快再次实施货币量化宽松政策，就告别网友，从此不再发帖回帖。
2011年4月，停止回复电子邮件。
2014年3月6日晚间消息，美国自由撰稿人莉亚·麦格拉斯·古德曼(Leah McGrath Goodman) 周四在《新闻周刊》(Newsweek) 网站发表文章称，她已经找到了比特币发明人中本聪(Satoshi Nakamoto)，并与他进行了面谈。据称，该人隐居在洛杉矶圣贝纳迪诺(San Bernardino) 山脚下的一座房子里。
古德曼表示中本聪2014年64岁，是一名日裔美国人，毕业于加州州立理工大学，获得物理学学士学位。而且，中本聪并非化名，他的真实姓名就是“中本聪”(Satoshi Nakamoto)”。
据麦格拉斯描述称，“我来到这里，试图深入了解中本聪及其低调的生活状态。滑稽的是，这个被认为发明了比特币的人居然退隐到了洛杉矶圣贝纳迪诺，宅在家里，全然不理会其估值4 亿美元的比特币财富。”
在加州的坦普尔市，记者见到了中本聪。他看起来又恐惧又生气。他报了警，警察询问记者找这个人干什么。记者告诉警察，这个形容潦倒的人就是中本聪——比特币的创造者。
这个估计拥有价值4亿美元比特币财富的人居然会蜗居在圣贝纳迪诺的山麓，看起来相当荒唐。同样不合情理的是当记者敲起中本聪的家门时，中本聪的第一反应是报警。

当天晚些时候，中本聪本人也站出来否认。他在P2P基金会的账户在尘封五年之后发了第一条消息，称：“我不是多利安·中本。”
身份之谜
